Edinburgh’s first exclusive gin distillery in over 150 years, the Summerhall Distillery produces small bottles of hand crafted Pickering’s Gin.
The Pickering’s Gin is based on an original Bombay recipe, handwritten on a fragment of paper dated 17 July 1947. The recipe was kept secret for over 66 years, and it only resurfaced in 2013 when the distilling began at Summerhall. The distillery makes three types of gin, called:
- Pickering’s Gin: a spectacularly smooth and flavoursome gin;
- Pickering’s Navy Strength Gin: bottled at 57.1% (100 proof) for more punch;
- Pickering’s Original 1947 Gin: crisp and refreshing, with a decidedly spicy kick.
The venue provides two tours, the “Distillery Tour” and the “Locked in the Distillery” tour, details of which can be found on the official website.
